Life is a sequence of  CHANGES: gains and losses. In therapy, CHANGE and GROWTH are often used interchangeably. Naturally, we seek the favorable effects of gains, but the real opportunity for growth is in our losses; in our struggles; in acknowledging our wounded selves (particularly difficult for men). Growth is the result of searching, discovering and strengthening who you are—of determining the direction of your life. Therapy is about the true collaboration of a client and a professional that will begin to bring peace into your life. What therapy is Not, is a silver bullet.

Your story is personal, your experiences are unlike any other person–ever!!! The therapy process is to find the unique you in the here and now, and to then work together to get you where you want to be.  Years of work with depressed and grief-stricken clients have brought me the realization that anxiety and failing interpersonal relationships are the primary obstacles to a healthy self, to a meaningful and purposeful life. Determining the causes and our role in these barriers (overwhelming at times) will begin the process of being unstuck. Therapy is the opportunity to regain control and release the healthy you.

Therapy can encompass a totally restructuring of yourself or as simple as reinvigorating your life from a pervasive staleness. Being heard is the key. For you and another to hear aloud what you often repeat in your mind: spoken with honesty–but without fear, or judgements, or embarrassment. Confronting the regrets, guilt and shame THAT WE ALL HAVE. To be understood.
